Town hall meetings on energy planned

The White House is planning to hold a series of town meetings next week on the President's national energy policy as part of an effort to "show compassion" over energy, the Washington Post reports today.

The administration is concerned that ordinary people aren't getting the right message about the policy, officials said. Instead of the focus on drilling, which benefits corporations, the White House wants to show that they want to help citizens with their energy issues.

Bush himself will not participate in the meetings as he is heading to Europe next Wednesday. Vice President Dick Cheney and other House and Senate Republicans will hold events, starting with one in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Monday.
