Energy documents demanded of Bush

TUESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2001

The General Accounting Office has sent a letter directly to President Bush, demanding he release documents on the formulation of his national energy policy.

The GAO has previously issued a demand letter to Vice President Dick Cheney, who headed the energy task force. But Cheney has refused.

The letter to Bush is the fifth time in 20 years the agency has issued such a demand to a President. Should the Bush administration continue to hold back documents, the GAO might sue.
