The Department of Interior has increased the speed and pressure at which oil and gas drilling on public lands is approved.

In Utah, the push is on to tap natural resources near two of the state's most popular national parks. Exploration and testing has begun next to the Arches National Park and the Canyonlands National Park.

Secretary Gale Norton this week said her fiscal year 2003 budget calls for streamlining leasing of federal lands.
