Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) is opposing changes to the management plan for the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument in New Mexico.

A spokesperson for Bingaman said the monument already has a plan developed with the approval of Cochiti Pueblo, Sandoval County and the Department of Interior. Changes that undermine the existing agreement will be opposed, Jude McCartin told The Albuquerque Journal.

Secretary of Interior Gale Norton has started a consultation process to create management plans for 17 national monuments.
