Nisga'a treaty passes into law

After a 100 year battle, the Nisga'a treaty has become law, having now passed in the Senate. The treaty, the first of its kind in British Columbia, secures land for the Nisga'a Nation, sets aside hundreds of millions of dollars, and recognizes self-governmental powers of the Nisga'a.
