Elder completes walk
JUNE 20, 2000

Robert Desjarlais completed his walk from Edmonton to Ottawa on June 19. Along with two other elders, Desjarlais began the 2,400 kilometre walk to underscore two important issues facing First Nations residents in Canada: residential school abuse and veterans.

Desjarlais walked the last 100 miles barefoot.

Lack of action on Desjarlais' claims of sexual and physical abuse at the Muskowekwan Residential School in Saskatchewan spurred him to begin his journey.
