Cop demoted for dishonorable conduct

THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 2002 A non-Native police offer in Ontario, Canada, was demoted on Wednesday for distributing a picture of an injured Aboriginal man on the Internet. Constable Maurice Lalonde was lowered rank for nine months for dishonorable conduct, a police tribunal decided. He sent a crime scene picture of a Native man online with the words "never eat your steak with a knife." Stan Beardy, Grand Chief of the Nishnawbe-Aski First Nation, said the light punishment reflects racist attitudes towards Aboriginals. Get the Story:
