In The Hoop
FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 2002

Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues.

In The Hoop: The Scorecard
Is it Friday already? That means it's time for the weekly list of the movers and shakers in Indian Country and beyond.

The Winners
EDS Corporation - As long as the trust fund is broken, you keep getting paid to write reports about it. Let the good times roll!

Primeaux & Mike - Congratulations on your Grammy. We only wish we would have been allowed in the building to not see you receive it.

The Klamath Tribes - No water for you, Auntie Gale says. So much for consultation.

National Congress of American Indians - Thanks for a great week of memories. See you in May!

The Losers
The New York Times - When the Bureau of Indian Affairs gets hacked, it makes your front page. When you get hacked, you didn't even mention it. How convenient!

Special Trustee Tom Slonaker - You could have just figured out the trust reform blueprint was no good early on and saved the Bush administration and Secretary Gale Norton all this trouble. Or at least that's what her lawyers say.

Mike Anderson - We know you dedicated "I Won't Back Down" (by Tom Petty) to us at the Monteau & Peebles Dance and Karaoke Party Machine on Wednesday night. But we can think of other songs you should be singing.

Oklahoma Indian Museum - Will you get the money needed for your construction? We say never!

The Losers
BITAM - Department of Interior officials say you've been pulled off the table. But until we see the court document, we won't believe it.

Jena Band of Choctaws - You're the buzz of Louisiana, you're the buzz in D.C., you're the buzz of a local paper who published the BIA's phone number. This means the Bush administration is afraid of approving your casino.

IHS - Will you be reorganized beyond belief? Some prefer you say the way you are, warts and all.

Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb - You're the only one who read that ICT editorial and believed it.
