The Winners
American Indian Films - For showing great promise. But true credit goes to the movers and shakers who work behind the scenes, especially on the development end. Native movies will hit the big time because of you.

The National Museum of the American Indian - For bringing Native films to the Santa Fe Indian Market this year. A welcome addition.

The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma - Congratulations on your $100 million contract! Was it a settlement in lieu of the trust land in Kansas you are seeking for the purpose of the traditional practice of Indian gambling?

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson - For becoming the second Cabinet member to visit Indian Country. When will President Bush take the plunge?

The Navajo Nation - For getting closer to a $600 million settlement with the government over a bad coal mining lease. Now what are you doing about the water Peabody Coal is allegedly stealing?

Lincoln Journal Star reporter Jodi Rave Lee - For producing a record number of stories about Indians this week.

People who love Golf - Tribes are now catering to your needs by building courses for you. Look for desert chic fashions near you!

The Losers
American Indian Films - You're plagued with bad scripts, no distribution and lack of financing.

Staff of Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) - You tell reporters one thing, You tell them another. You're supposed to be handling press not confusing them.

Tribes seeking trust lands - You've sought the wrong land to put into trust, thereby angering non-Indians who want land-into-trust regulations revoked. Thanks Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb!

North Stonington, Connecticut - All the money you want to make from taxing the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation you have spent on lawyers to fight the tribe. And yet you still want more money.

Department of Interior - For having more credit cards than employees. Why not give one to each Individual Indian Money (IIM) account holder? That would make up for decades of financial mismanagement. And just what is Secretary Gale Norton's credit limit?

Department of Treasury - For barely admonishing attorneys who were aware of the destruction of trust fund records yet waited months to tell a federal judge.

In The Middle

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals - For upholding tribal sovereignty at the expense of tribal members. Guess you can't have it all, tribes.
