Potawatomi's Rocky goes down

The Citizen Potawatomi Nation Supreme Court has upheld a decison to strip long-time chairman John A. "Rocky" Barrett of his job as administration of the Oklahoma tribe.

But Barrett, in usual fashion, isn't down for the count. He says he's still going to manage tribal affairs even if he isn't paid the $73,000 annual salary.

Barrett still holds the title of chairman, an elected post. He had, in fact, appointed himself as administrator back in 1996.

The tribal business committee then fired him in July 2000. A lower court said the firing was wrong but the Supreme Court said the business committee was within its powers to strip Barreett of the administrator title.
