The leaders of two Pequot tribes whose federal recognition status is being challenged by the state of Connecticut say they are confident information they have submitted will help their case.

The Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe has submitted 400 pages of reports and some 9,000 pages of other documents. Per an agreement made with the state, the tribe is releasing the information to three towns and Attorney General Richard Blumenthal.

The Eastern Pequot Tribe is not handing over its documentation to the other parties. The state would have to ask the Bureau of Indian Affairs to release any information under freedom of information laws.

The tribe have 30 days to respond to evidence submitted by third parties. The BIA then has 90 days to issue a final determination.

Pending an appeal, the final determination becomes effective after 90 days.
