A final election in a dispute over the leadership of the Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico has returned what the loser is calling an incredulous result.

In a November 6 election, Mark Chino defeated incumbent Sara Misquez by a vote of 590 to 523. But the election was thrown out due a challenge over voting machines versus voting ballots was raised by a losing candidate.

In a December primary, Chino beat Misquez by a vote of 386 to 382. But on Wednesday, Misquez emerged the winner by a vote of 717 to 484.

Chino is the son of the late and former president Wendell Chino.
