The Cowlitz Tribe of Washington has filed a lawsuit against the state Department of Fish and Wildlife over treaty rights.

The lawsuit, filed in state court, contends the state ignored the tribe's rights when boundaries of hunting territory were drawn. Other tribes, who signed the Medicine Creek Treaty, however, disagree with the Cowlitz.

The federal recognition of the Cowlitz Tribe was affirmed and finalized by Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb earlier this month.
