Three Connecticut towns whose only claim to victory in a land-into-trust case was the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation's withdrawal of its request want $1.2 million in legal funds reimbursed.

Along with state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, the towns of Ledyard, North Stonington and Preston sued the Bureau of Indian Affairs to prevent 165 acres of land from being taken into trust for the tribe. Since the lawsuit is being dismissed, they want Congress or the federal government to refund the money.

In spite of the move, North Stonington is budgeting $40,000 to fight the tribe's land-into-trust petitions.
