WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2, 2002 A group called the New York Brothertown Tribal Nation is challenging the claims of the Brothertown Nation, a Wisconsin group seeking federal recognition. The New York group says the federal government terminated the Wisconsin faction in the 1800s. Congress would have to reverse that status, says the New York Brothertown tribe. The historic Brothertown Nation was composed of members from various tribes, including the Pequot and Mohegan. Brothertown ancestors were signatories to a treaty but have not been federally recognized. Get the Story:
