Conroy Chino, one of the few high-profile Native American television reporters, has been laid off from his job at KOB-TV 4 in New Mexico, reports The Albuquerque Journal today.

Chino was one of 16 laid off by the station. General manager Mike Burgess said the sagging economy and a loss of advertising revenue led to the layoffs.

Chino was previously employed by KOAT, another Albuquerque station. Hailing from Acoma Pueblo, some may remember Chino from his cameo in the sci-fi flick "Contact."
