Support for Neb. gaming amendment sought

JANUARY 11, 2001 Nebraska state Senator DiAnna Schimek is hoping enough members of the General Affairs Committee will approve a bill aimed at allowing expanded gaming on reservations. A similar bill failed to make it out of the committee. The bill would give voters the right to amend the state's constitution to allow Vesgas-style gaming. The state has four tribes. The Santee Sioux are operating Class III gaming machines without a state compact and have been ordered to shut down. Get the Story:
