Tribes who sell tags in Oklahoma
If the Cherokees sell car tags to their members in Oklahoma, they would most likely fall under the same restrictions as other Indian tags in the state. The tags are issued only for cars that reside in the legal boundaries of the Tribe or Nation. The majority of tribes and nations who issue tags have a membership under 3,000. Although all of the tribes currently require their members to buy their car tags at the tribal headquarters, the Cherokees are exploring the feasability of local state tag offices within their jurisdiction to sell Cherokee tags. It is important to note that the Oklahoma Legislature is currently debating lowering the car tag yearly tax rate which is unusually high compared to surrounding states.

The Tribes and Nations that currently issue tags in Oklahoma are:
Apache Tribe
Cheyenne-Arapho Tribe
Comanche Tribe
Creek Nation
Iowa Tribe
Kiowa Tribe
Modoc Tribe
Osage Nation
Otoe-Missouri Tribe
Pawnee Tribe
Ponca Tribe
Sac and Fox Nation
Seminole Nation
Seneca-Cayuga Tribes
United Keetowah Band of Cherokees
