The Seneca Nation and Governor George Pataki (R) on Wednesday signed a 14-year compact on gaming the tribe hopes to establish in upstate New York.

The agreement covers the tribe's proposed casinos in Niagara Falls, set to open in April 2002, and another in Buffalo. The agreement requires tribal, local and federal approval.

The Department of Interior has to take the land into trust for the tribe. It is unclear from the Associated Press article if the tribe has already submitted a land-into-trust application and for how many acres.

The tribe would share anywhere from 18 percent to 25 percent of its slot revenues with the state. The state would share some of that revenue with local communities that host the casinos.
