The New York Senate quickly approved gaming compact negotiations between Governor George Pataki (R) and the Seneca Nation but there are still a number of obstacles to clear before the tribe's casino plans become reality.

Some members of the Assembly aren't terribly excited about giving Pataki unlimited power to finish the compact. Speaker Sheldon Silver (D) says he wants more information on the details of the 14-year compact Pataki and the tribe have proposed.

The tribe still has to have the Bureau of Indian Affairs agree to take land into trust for any off-reservation casino. Under the compact, one casino could be located on the tribe's casino.
