Idaho's Attorney General has given a title to the gaming intiative two tribes hope will lead to expanded gaming on the state's reservations.

"An initiative defining tribal video gaming machines and providing for amendment of state-tribal gaming compact providing for their use" is sponsored by the Coeur d'Alene and Nez Perce tribes. They are launching an effort this weekend to put the initiative on the ballot in 2002.

The tribes need 6 percent of signatures from voters in 22 of Idaho's 44 counties. The effort could cost between $4 million and $8 million.
