SEPTEMBER 13, 2000

Lawyers for Donald Trump said they plan to file freedom of speech lawsuit against the New York state Commission on Lobbying within the coming week, alleging that the Pataki administration has been politically motivated in its actions against Trump's activities.

Trump admitted to funding a group which produced radio, television, and newspaper ads which portrayed the St. Regis Mohawk tribe as criminals. The Commission said Trump had to report his contributions to the group as lobbying.

The ads were an attempt to help pass gaming bills in the New York legislature aimed at placing more limits on Indian gaming. The bills eventually failed to pass.
