Ariz. tracks seek slot machines

Arizona tribes will seek to fight a proposal by four race tracks to add video slot machines to their facilities, said Ivan Makil, president of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.

Makil told The Arizona Republic that it wasn't surprising that the tracks would seek to add machines, even though they earlier claimed otherwise. The track owners say tribes have stolen their business and they want the Legislature to allow the machines.

The race track industry filed a lawsuit against renegotiation of tribal gaming compact and won a legal victory that has had no real effect on the daily operations of casinos.
