Gold deposit could be bounty for Natives

FRIDAY, JANUARY 25, 2002 Land in western Alaska owned by Alaska Natives holds some of the densest gold deposits, according to a company that wants to mine the metal. Kuskokwim Village Corp. owns surface rights to the area while Calista Corp., a regional corporation, owns the subsurface rights. NovaGold Resources Inc. hopes to start development within the next three years, saying it could bring hundreds of jobs to the area. Get the Story:
