Under fire Andersen makes changes

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2002

Still reeling from its past involvement with bankrupt company Enron, auditing firm Arthur Andersen on Sunday announced changes in the way it does business.

Former Federal Reserve Board chairman Paul A. Volcker will lead an oversight panel that will focus on reforming the Andersen's practices. Andersen also will no longer offer consulting services to companies that it audits.

Andersen has taken a lead role in the attempt to provide an historical accounting for 300,000 American Indians. The Department of Interior has not responded to numerous requests to comment on Andersen's relationship, even after the White House ordered a review of all federal contracts awarded to the company.
