The accounting firm whose report on the assets of four American Indian beneficiaries is the subject of a legal and political dispute announced on Monday it was making changes to its business practices.

Ernst & Young said it was responding to issues raised in the wake of the Enron scandal. Arthur Andersen, another accounting firm, audited the failed energy company's books but its handling has been called into question.

Ernst & Young said it wouldn't offer consulting services to any company it audits. The firm also said it wouldn't perform external and internal services for a client.
