The rags-to-riches story of the Tigua Tribe of Texas is written up in the Christian Science Monitor today.

According to tribal members, it will be back to rags now that their Speaking Rock Casino has been shut down. A federal appeals court said it was operating in violation of state law and the facility has been shut down since February.

Among the improvements cited since the casino opened in 1993: unemployment has dropped to 1 percent, 98 percent of tribal members complete high school, the Tigua Pueblo is the safest area in El Paso and numerous home, social and other programs.
