Progress cited on Pequot-town relationship

Progress has been made improving the relationship between the Connecticut town of Congdon and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Preston First Selectman Robert Congdon says.

Running unopposed to lead the town, the Republican says he considers such progress one of his biggest accomplishments. Congdon told The New London Day the discussions his town has had with the tribe over land-into-trust are "positive," even if they don't resolve their differences.

Preston is the only one of three towns still willing to talk to the tribe. North Stonington and Ledyard dropped out of discussions last week, saying the tribe's proposal to limit land-into-trust applications to 880 acres over 35 years is inadequate.
