Trust fund issue looms for Norton

A Wilderness Society analyst said one of the biggest problems Gale Norton faces should she be confirmed as Secretary of Interior is fixing the historically mismanaged Indian trust fund system.

Perhaps realizing the nature of the monumental task, Norton during her Senate confirmation hearings said she would work to straighten out the problem sometime "in the future." The billion dollar lawsuit has been in litigation for several years and a settlement on some of its aspects was killed last month.
