FRIDAY, JULY 20, 2001

In a victory for the Bush administration, the House on Thursday approved a bill seeking to funnel more federal funds to religious groups.

By a vote of 233 to 198, the House passed the faith-based initiative bill. The vote came a day after Democrats and some moderate Republicans said they were worried religious groups would discriminate against others.

The bill goes onto the Senate, where its future is uncertain.
