The Seminole Tribe of Florida gave $10,000 to the legal defense fund of Sen. Robert Torricelli (D-N.J.), who was under investigation for personal and political finances, according to the Associated Press.

The tribe's donation was a small part of the more than $1.5 million raised before the U.S. Attorney's office decided to drop the probe and not file any charges against Torricelli. Others had pleaded guilty to making illegal contributions to Torricelli's 1996 Senate run.

The Seminole Tribe owns five casinos. The tribe has been a heavy political donor in the past.
