Opening of Senate building put on hold

THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 2002

The long-awaited opening of the Senate Hart Office Building has been delayed again.

The building has been closed since October after anthrax was discovered in the building. After an Environmental Protection Agency cleanup, it was due to reopen Friday.

But gear associated with the cleanup was found inside the building, so the opening has been put off indefinitely.

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee and the offices of Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) are in the building. Committee hearings have been suspended due to the problem.
