THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 2002

Phone, fax and snail mail have replaced the Internet and e-mail as the methods tribes and others use to communicate with the Department of Interior.

"I’ve just had to go through other channels," an official for the Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Tribe told The Palm Springs Desert Sun. "It’s nothing I can’t live with."

Of course, tribes are also meeting face-to-face with government officials. Today, tribal leaders are attending a consultation session over a new Indian trust agency in San Diego.
