Judicial pick raising questions

The Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a second confirmation hearing on Charles W. Pickering, a federal judge President Bush has picked to sit on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Civil rights and abortion rights advocates say Pickering is a bad choice for the position. They say his views on race and women's choice are a throwback to the days of segregation and pre-Roe v. Wade.

Supporters, which include African-Americans, say the characterizations about Pickering's views on race are unfounded.
