Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) will chair the House Resources Committee if the Republican leadership agrees to his demands, reports The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.

Young wants to remains as chairman for 12 years, not counting the six he served prior to stepping down in 2000. He also wants to continue serving as vice-chair of the Transportation Committee.

Otherwise, he has basically turned down a request by GOP leaders to head the panel. A fight is expected over the chairmanship, for which Jim Saxton of New Jersey, Rep. Richard Pombo of California, and Scott McInnis of Colorado are among the contenders.
