Seminole's Chief Haney restored to power

A Code of Federal Regulations court today restored Jerry Haney as principal chief of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.

Judge Philip Lujan issued two emergency restraining orders against current principal chief Ken Chambers and his administration, barring them from asserting control over the tribe. The decision prohibits Chambers and other officials from accessing tribal funds and directs them to "surrender" all moneys, documents and other records to Haney.

Lujan also ordered all tribal businesses be shut down until they can be transferred to administrators and managers appointed by Haney.

Messages were left with Haney at various Seminole offices. Tribal employees said he was aware of the decision.

Attempts to reach representatives of the Chambers administration by phone were not immediately successful.
