JANUARY 9, 2000

In an editorial today, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer says the nomination of former Colorado Attorney General Gale Norton to head the Department of Interior reopens "the war on the West's public lands."

The paper calls Norton's attempt to limit government regulation of public lands "misguided." The paper says her positions on drilling in the Arctic, support of property-rights, and defense of self-auditing environmental laws present a "worrisome resume."
