MAY 18, 2001

A group called Nebraskans for Peace will hold a number of protests in Whiteclay, calling attention of the sale of beer to residents of the nearby Pine Ridge Reservation.

The protests will take place from June 5 through June 10. Included is a march from the reservation in South Dakota to Whiteclay on June 9, the second anniversary of the discovery of the bodies of two Indian men whose deaths the authorities attribute to alcohol, a conclusion Lakota activists dispute.
