Italians celebrate Columbus Day early

TUESDAY, JULY 10, 2001

A group of Italian-Americans celebrated more than one month of perserverance on Tuesday sausages and praise.

After 37 days of camping out in front of a city office in Denver, Colorado, the group Sons of Italy/New Generation managed to score the sole parade permit for Columbus Day, which is on October 8. The group camped out because they didn't want Native Americans to get the permit.

Indian activists are planning a protest anyway, having obtained a different type of permit during the week in question.
