The organizers of an event which will take place two days before a Columbus Day parade say their focus is spiritual and it not meant as a protest.

The American Indian Movement of Denver, Colorado, is working with women of all ethnic backgrounds for the planned October 6 march, said an organizer.

An Italian group is planning to hold a parade to honor the explorer Columbus on October 8. Last year, Indian activists and supporters marched in opposition and more than 100 were arrested.
