The holder of a sole Columbus Day parade permit in Denver, Colorado, says he will consider dropping "Columbus" from his celebration if the city creates an Italian-American history month.

C.M. Mangiaracina, who organized last year's controversial parade, said the trade would be a fair exchange. Other Italian-Americans, however, oppose the plan and want the city to issue another permit.

Native American and other activists who oppose the use of "Columbus" in the parade have not said if they would accept the change. American Indian Movement activist Glenn Morris said C.M. made many promises last year about the parade but broke them.

Over 140 protesters were arrested last year during the parade.
