Doug Grow: Indian clinic on firing frenzy

"The firings will have to end soon at the Indian Health Board, a little clinic in south Minneapolis. They're going to have to, because there can't be many people left to fire.

Two more physicians, Carol Krush and Lori Banaszak, were called into administrative offices late Friday afternoon and told to pack up their personal gear and turn in their keys. Their firings follow the dismissal of another doctor, Lydia Caros, a few weeks ago. Her firing came on the heels of a number of other firings and departures in the past two years.

First, the Indian Health Board is a nonprofit clinic that functions mostly on public money and is supposed to serve the neediest in a poor neighborhood.

Second, the board of directors -- and a series of clinic executives -- have been on a firing binge for two years as employees have questioned grievance procedures and other management decisions, including how money is being spent. Those who say "there's something wrong here" seem to get fired. . ."
