TUESDAY, MAY 7, 2002 A Washington, D.C., African-American chef and restaurant owner has filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the Starwood hotel chain. Timothy Dean owns a restaurant located in the St. Regis hotel. The hotel's parent company is Starwood. According to the suit, hotel manager Duncan Graham is alleged to have sent an e-mail stating: "This nigger is not only costing the St. Regis to lose revenue but it's giving the hotel a negative image." The hotel's operations director is alleged to have told hotel employees that "No black man is capable of running a five-star establishment and he should stay in the kitchen." Get the Story:
