Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota), a former Democratic candidate for president, announced that her husband, John, has contracted coronavirus.

“I love him & not being able to be by his side is one of the hardest things about this disease,” Klobuchar said in a post on social media. “So many are going through this & much worse. I pray for him & you & meanwhile I will do all I can to get help to the American people.”

She also issued a lengthier statement on Medium. She said the family found out he diagnosis on the morning of Monday, March 23, 2020.

“John started to feel sick when I was in Minnesota and he was in Washington D.C. and like so many others who have had the disease, he thought it was just a cold,” Klobuchar wrote.

Klobuchar participated in the Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum in Iowa last August. She promised to bring a Native chef — Sean Sherman, also known as The Sioux Chef — to the White House for an official state dinner.

Klobuchar is the second prominent Minnesota politician with a connection to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, a citizen of the White Earth Nation, lost her older brother, Ron, to the coronavirus.
