The first local case of COVID-19 is not a tribal citizen, Chairman Louis Taylor of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians said in an update on April 8, 2020.

The case in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, is not a tribal employee either, Taylor said. He credited the community for following social distancing guidelines and other health recommendations.

“Please continue to observe these safety measures until further notice,” Taylor said.

According to Taylor, the Lac Courte Oreilles Community Health Center has administered 26 tests. So far, 23 of those have returned negative, with results awaited on 3 others.
