Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska 2018

The New Winnebago Facebook Cover Video!2018 was an historical year for the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. Just a few highlights. • We re-established our connection to our relatives from the south, The Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma. • Our annual homecoming celebration powwow was well attended. • The Winnebago Volunteer Fire Department gave us an amazing firework display. • The Winnebago Indians Boys Basketball Team took runner-up in the Nebraska State Tournament. • The Little Priest Tribal College Warriors Basketball Teams are now officially in the ICAAC conference and have a winning record. • On July, 1st, 2018 the Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System received the keys from the Indian Health Service to the Twelve Clans Unity Hospital at a midnight ceremony held at the front entrance of the hospital.• A scared fire was built in January for prayers for our tribe. It burned night and day for 30 days straight and cared for by a Winnebago Combat Veteran. • The last scene is of the statue in the Ho-Chunk Village of the warrior holding the sacred pipe. Many positive changes took place in the Ho-Chunk Village for the betterment of our Tribe. As we close out 2018, we look forward to 2019 with many more historical endeavors that have yet to be written for our people.

Chairman Coly Brown of the Winnebago Tribe released the following statement on April 18, 2020, in connection with the leak of sensitive CARES Act data by the federal government.

“Tribes do not like to share their data but in order to access these critical funds to protect the health and safety of our members under the CARES Act, we did.  Now, our worst fears are confirmed and there has been a leak of that data.  I worry about the lasting impact and damage to our Tribal Nations by this leak. I echo the call for an immediate investigation into the matter.”
