8 new cases and four more deaths related to COVID-19 reported

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Saturday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported eight new COVID-19 positive cases for the Navajo Nation and four more deaths. The total number of deaths is now 1,352 as of Saturday. A full report will be available on Monday.

On Saturday, the state of Arizona reported 475 new cases, Utah reported 351, and New Mexico will report its weekend cases on Monday.

“Please remain mindful that we have several COVID-19 variants on the Navajo Nation, including the Delta variant. The good news is that the health care experts state that the vaccines are effective against the variants. Many of the new infections across the country are individuals who have not been fully vaccinated. If you know of a loved one or friend who has not received the vaccine, please encourage them to do so in order to help protect everyone. We are in this together, so please continue to be cautious,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines during drive-thru events or by appointment. If you would like to receive the vaccine, please contact your health care provider for more information for your Service Unit.

“Thank you to all of the health care workers and first responders who continue to work through the weekend to protect us all. Let’s help them by continuing to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please be safe and keep praying for our people and communities,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
