FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 27, 2021

3 new cases and no recent deaths related to COVID-19 reported

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Sunday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported three new COVID-19 positive cases for the Navajo Nation and no recent deaths. The total number of deaths remains 1,352 as previously. A full report will be available on Monday.

On Sunday, the state of Arizona reported 436 new cases, Utah reported 282, and New Mexico will report its weekend cases on Monday.

“Be cautious and continue to be safe as we fight back against the COVID-19 variants in our Navajo communities and across the country. The data in many states shows that the majority of new COVID-19 infections are those individuals who are not vaccinated. This trend highlights the need for more of our people to get fully vaccinated. We have a very high vaccination rate on the Navajo Nation, but we can do more. Please remain diligent and keep taking precautions,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines during drive-thru events or by appointment. If you would like to receive the vaccine, please contact your health care provider for more information for your Service Unit.

“Community immunity is what we are aiming for and it’s a goal that is within sight. If you know of a friend or family member who has not been fully vaccinated, please inform them of the benefits and encourage them to be fully vaccinated. Thank you to all of our health care workers and many others fighting to save lives. Be safe and keep praying,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
