41 new cases, 31,368 recoveries, and no recent deaths related to COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Friday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 41 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and no recent deaths. The total number of deaths is 1,418. The report indicates that 31,368 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 324,588 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 33,146. 

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 6,043
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 3,208
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 3,969
• Gallup Service Unit: 5,272
• Kayenta Service Unit: 2,916
• Shiprock Service Unit: 5,603
• Tuba City Service Unit: 4,033
• Winslow Service Unit: 2,083

* 19 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Friday, the state of Arizona reported 2,988 new cases, Utah reported 2,189 cases and New Mexico reported 885 new cases. The Navajo Department of Health advises the public to report COVID-19 exposures through their website at: https://www.ndoh.navajo-nsn.gov/COVID-19 to help compile information and mitigation efforts. 

“Be safe, wear a mask, and get fully vaccinated for COVID-19. The Delta variant is a growing concern for the Navajo Nation and the entire country. Our health care professionals have provided the guidance that we need to protect ourselves and it’s up to us, as individuals, to adhere to their guidance. There are plenty of vaccines widely available at each health care facility on the Navajo Nation, so please make an appointment or pay a visit to one of the centers to receive the vaccine. Stay safe and continue to pray for our communities,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines during drive-thru events or by appointment. If you would like to receive the vaccine, don’t hesitate to contact your health care provider for more information for your Service Unit. 

“If you travel anywhere on or off the Navajo Nation, please continue to wear a mask in public. We are in this together, so please take precautions and think about the health of others during this pandemic. Please be safe and continue to pray for all people,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
