100 new cases, 37,647 recoveries, and four recent deaths related to COVID-19

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona – On Saturday, the Navajo Department of Health, in coordination with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, reported 100 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation and four recent deaths. The total number of deaths is now 1,551. The report indicates that 37,647 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. 397,846 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The overall total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 40,019, including 21 delayed reported cases.

Navajo Nation COVID-19 positive cases by Service Unit:

• Chinle Service Unit: 6,999
• Crownpoint Service Unit: 3,823
• Ft. Defiance Service Unit: 4,674
• Gallup Service Unit: 6,591
• Kayenta Service Unit: 3,428
• Shiprock Service Unit: 7,186
• Tuba City Service Unit: 4,932
• Winslow Service Unit: 2,364

* 22 residences with COVID-19 positive cases are not specific enough to place them accurately in a Service Unit.

On Saturday, the state of Arizona reported 6,043 new cases. The states of Utah and New Mexico will report weekend case numbers on Monday.  

“As of today, 11 states have confirmed cases of the Omicron variant, including several states near and around the Navajo Nation. We experienced an increase in new infections due to the recent holiday, but we have to remain diligent and continue to get more of our people fully vaccinated. All health care facilities on the Navajo Nation offer the vaccines and booster shots, so please get vaccinated if you haven’t already. We are in this together and the safest place to be is at home here on the Navajo Nation,” said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.

Health care facilities across the Navajo Nation continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines. If you would like to receive one of the COVID-19 vaccines, please contact your health care provider and schedule an appointment.

“Everyone has a personal responsibility to take precautions and to help keep each other safe. We are in this together and we need to do more to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Please be safe, practice safety protocols, and continue to pray for our people and frontline workers,” said Vice President Myron Lizer.
